Century's C21 photovoltaic roof tiles, look almost like
standard roof slate
|
Solar power has really come a long way in the last couple of decades, and we are still barely tapping the potential of solar technology. Much like the first generations of large and inefficient computer chips, the solar cell has the potential to cheaply, without pollution, power the world.
Still the technology will probably need another decade to mature, but great advances have already been made.
For example, Solar Century's C21 photovoltaic roof tiles, look almost like standard roof slate, other than a bluish tint. More important; however, the electrical component of the tiles is so simple, any roofer can manage the job.
While the cost of the tiles are still somewhat expensive, about $14,000 to handle half the electrical needs of your typical 1,400 square foot home, the tiles will pay for themselves in about a decade.
