Tiny Fiat 500 earns IIHS Top Safety Pick, but…..

Front and side impact safety? Check.
Rear-impact whiplash? Check.
Electronic stability control? Check.
That’s what the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety found in its testing of the Fiat 500 minicar, making the 500 a Top Safety Pick.
Unfortunately, however, the Fiat 500 won’t fare as well if it crashes with a larger vehicle. So, while the 500 is a Top Safety Pick if it crashes with vehicles of the same size, it would probably perform poorly under the same tests if involved in a crash with a pickup truck or SUV, for instance.
