sure a plasma TV is not on your shopping list

You
can't be green and own a plasma TV
So, you're feeling pretty green heading into this Holiday
season, right? You've replaced all your light fixtures
with compact
fluorescent light bulbs, bought some energy star
compliant appliances, and sent An Inconvenient Truth to
all your friends.
Let's hope your friends aren't going to watch that movie
on a plasma TV. That would be self-defeating.
If you consider yourself an environmentalist, or at least
someone concerned enough with green issues and global
warming to change you light bulbs, then you should
absolutely not buy a plasma TV. You'll easy eat through
all your efficiency gains with just a short amount of TV
time, as plasma TVs are extreme energy hogs.
Now, if you just have to have a flat screen, go with an
LCD screen. Also, check out the manufacturer's web sites
to see how much power they use, so that you can at least
buy the most energy efficient TV. If possible, wait a few
more years. Manufacturer's are working on this problem.
Soon, I'm hoping to put together a list of the least
energy consuming flat screen TVs. However, if you know of
such a list, please post a comment with the link.
