CAFE to save Americans $700.00 per year

Democrats
in Congress are liars
"Democrats said the fuel economy requirements
eventually -- when the fleet of gas-miser vehicles are
widely on the road -- will save motorists $700 to $1,000 a
year in fuel costs. They maintain the overall bill,
including more ethanol use and various efficiency
requirements and incentives, will reduce U.S. oil demand
by 4 million barrels a day by 2030, more than twice the
daily imports from the volatile Persian Gulf." (CNN)
Nonsense.
First, how is someone in an SUV going to save $700 per
year if their vehicle is going to cost $7,000 more to buy?
Americans might be able to buy more fuel efficient
vehicles that will save fuel, but they are going to pay
more for those vehicles. Does Congress not even understand
economics 101?
Second, the hugest decrease in foreign oil dependency will
be achieved via ethanol in this plan. So, we'll reduce
foreign oil dependency, pay 10 times more for our food,
while reducing our grain imports to a starving world. And
if global warming is real and it causes a drought, America
might not have anything to eat or any fuel to power our
cars. Brilliant!
Third, a huge percent of the renewable fuels that Congress
is banking on are supposed to come from cellulosic
ethanol, a technology that is more myth than reality and
not even close to cost-effectiveness. That's one big leap
of faith - and Democrats make fun of the faith of
Republicans?
Fourth, somehow Congress believes that if Americans spend
less at the pump, they will drive less, even though the
last CAFE bill proved this logic completely flawed? Now
what is it called again when someone does the same thing,
but expects different results?
That's right, insanity.
(And to be fair,
Democrats accomplished much more than Republicans. So, if
Democrats are insane, what does that say about
Republicans? I say it means a fresh start in Congress -
vote against ALL incumbents!)
