Hymotion is offering plug-in conversion kits for the Toyota
Prius, but a kit for the Ford
Escape hybrid was planned as well.
The Hymotion kit promises to offer up to 100 mpg up to 30 - 40 miles, but only on second generation Prius hybrids. The kit was not developed for the first generation Prius, nor has it been updated for the third generation Prius.
The Hymotion plug-in installation doesn't replace the current NiMH battery nor battery management system. Instead, the Hymotion battery pack supplements the NiMH back and manages the EV driving off the vehicle.
Anthony Wei, Vice-President Business Development
explains: "The secret ingredient to the 100 plus
miles per gallon performance is the Lithium Ion
Polymer technology in our PHEV battery. It's smaller,
lighter, and more powerful than the NiMH batteries
currently use in all Hybrid vehicle. This is the
future."
Currently, there is a federal tax credit of 10 percent.
It takes 5 hours to fully charge the plug-in Prius.
