More fuel efficient and safer
Largely thanks to 10 percent greater weight because of battery packs and extra parts, hybrid cars are more safe than conventional vehicles according to research by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
On average, according to the IIHS, hybrid cars are 25 percent more safe than their conventional counterparts.
While researchers tried to account for confounding variables, such as the type of buyers whom buy and drive hybrids and how they drive. For instance, hybrid drivers often drive slower, or at least that's the assumption.
Nevertheless, even if buyers of hybrids are just safer driver, the data still demonstrates that hybrids in and of themselves are also safer.
From now on its not just about hybrids and fuel economy, but hybrid cars and safety. Nice.
