Best Family Sedan according to Consumer Reports

The 2006 and 2007 Accord hybrid is faster than a conventional V6 Accord, and significantly more fuel efficient. It was also awarded the 2005 Best Family Sedan according to Consumer Reports.

Lately, Honda has also offered dealers some special incentives on the Accord hybrid, so buyers have some bargaining power.

The world's first V-6 powered hybrid car, the Honda Accord Hybrid, utilizes a third-generation Integrated Motor Assist full hybrid system combined with an all new Variable Cylinder Management cylinder deactivation system. This combination produces powerful 6 cylinder performance with the fuel-efficiency of a 4 cylinder vehicle in the Accord hybrid.

The Hybrid Accord goes
 0 - 60
one second faster than the
standard Accord

The VCM can shut off 3 of 6 cylinders, when performance isn't needed, such as during highway cruising or going down hill.

The Accord hybrid also achieves extra efficiency with 'idle stop', a feature that causes the Accord to turn itself off when the car comes to a stop from a speed above 10 mph, or when the car slows below 10 mph. As soon as the brake is released; however, the engine immediately restarts.

Delivering 255 horsepower, the Honda Accord Hybrid  achieves an EPA estimated 30 mpg in the city, and 37 mpg on the highway - about a 43 percent increase over the standard V-6 vehicle.

The Accord Hybrid's 3.0 liter i-VTEC V-6 engine, based on the standard Accord's V6, includes a number of new features unique to the hybrid, such as a dual-stake intake manifold, and a high-performance torque converter.

All of these unique Honda hybrid features work seamlessly and synchronously. The most unusual feature is silence - you might think your car isn't running at times because the hybrid powertrain is so quiet.

Additionally, the Accord hybrid offers a new 5-speed automatic transmission, which is thinner and lighter than the standard Accord, providing quicker shift response during acceleration.

Basically, the Accord hybrid is faster and more powerful than the standard Accord - all the while - reducing fuel consumption and significantly reducing pollution emissions.

In fact the hybrid Accord goes from 0-to-60 in about 6.7 seconds, almost a second faster than the standard Accord.

The powerful Sedan is loaded with premium comfort and safety features. In addition to a leather Interior, the Honda Accord Hybrid offers a dual zone climate control system, 8-way power seats, XM Satellite radio, 6 cd disc player, plus a special rear deck lid spoiler and specially designed alloy wheels.

Honda's 'Safety for Everyone' package is an included hybrid feature that offers driver and front passenger side airbags, first and second row side curtain airbags, four wheel ABS and traction control.

On the downside, the Accord hybrid does not include a small spare tire. Instead, the spare tire is replaced by a small can of sealant and a small air compressor.

Additionally, the hybrid Accord loses some cargo space, about 2.8 cubic feet of cargo space. Also, sunroofs are not optional.

Overall; however, the Accord hybrid is just like driving another V6 Accord - only better - offering extra performance, gas-savings, and reduced pollution.

The Honda Accord hybrid goes for about $30,000, roughly $3500.00 more than a comparably equipped Accord V-6 EX.
