Ford Focus Hybrid
Updated 3/26/2012
Not many details are yet available regarding the Focus hybrid which was only recently confirmed by Ford, although Ford has stated that it will be built at the recently updated Michgan Assembly Plant.
Mostly likely, however, the Focus hybrid will utilize a hybrid drive very similar to that currently found in the Fusion hybrid. Unlike the Fusion hybrid, the Focus hybrid will replace the NiMH battery pack with a lithium-ion battery pack.
Additionally, the Fusion hybrid is also larger than the Focus hybrid, so some downsizing in the Focus hybrid powertrain is expected, although that should only affect horsepower, not fuel economy. The Fusion hybrid achieves 41/36 mpg city/highway. Thus, the smaller Focus hybrid should return even greater fuel economy ratings.
In late 2011 Ford will launch an electric version of the Focus, to be followed shortly thereafter with both hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions of the Focus.
