Not
so sure about plug-in hybrids
By 2009, Honda will make a significant push into the hybrid
vehicles market, greatly expanding hybrid production.
The cornerstone of that production increase will be based
upon a new family hybrid that will cost less than $2,000
more than a conventional vehicle.
The new family hybrid - a hybrid-only vehicle - might also
be paired with a diesel engine, but it almost certainly
will not be a plug-in hybrid vehicle.
Chief Executive Takeo Fukui stated
on Tuesday that batteries for plug-in
hybrid vehicles were still far too heavy.
"I'm not sure what kind of real advantages they would
have," he said.
Additionally, Fukui believes that hydrogen-powered fuel
cell vehicles will be ready for mass-production within 10
years.
