Foreign
oil dependency: Is Bush the worst President ever?
Tuesday,
September 25, 2007
Blood
diamonds just don't compare to blood oil and most foreign
oil is blood oil
George W. Bush is the worst President ever?
O.K. Whatever.
But we're the worst Americans ever as well.
We complain about Iraq as we drive in our foreign oil
dependency increasing gas-guzzlers. We blame others for
the problems we help exacerbate.
No blood for oil?
Much foreign oil IS blood oil. We're all consuming blood
oil.
Bin Laden stated, "You steal our wealth and oil at
paltry prices because of your international influence and
military threats. This theft is indeed the biggest theft
ever witnessed by mankind in the history of the
world."
Gore
the great environmentalist?
Ironically, one of the biggest increases in U.S. foreign
oil dependency occurred during the Clinton/Gore
Administration. Additionally, greenhouse gas emissions
went up a quarter during that same period.
That would make the Clinton / Gore years one of the worst
environmental Presidencies ever. One of the worst blood
for oil administrations.
Isn't that an Inconvenient Truth?
Ultimately, both Democrats and Republicans have, for
decades, been bought by oil - as have MOST Americans.
Also, lest we forget, it was a Democrat that created our
contract with Saudi Arabia, not a Republican.
Point a finger at Bush, America, but there are three
fingers pointing back at YOU.
Inevitably, it's not all Bush's fault. It was also Bill's
fault. Jimmy's fault. Ronald's fault and on and on.
Most important, it was YOUR fault. MY fault. OUR fault.
We need to stop blaming Bush and start taking
responsibility for our lives. Bush is a simple
scapegoat. When it comes to oil and
foreign oil dependency, most of us live in glass houses.
Obviously,
it's a lot easier to blame Bush for all of America's
problems, rather than to accept the fact that America
needs to reduce its oil consumption by about 50 percent,
minimally, just to reduce our foreign oil dependency to
only American allies.
Wake
up America!
We, the people, need to declare war on foreign oil
dependency now. We need to make better decisions as
consumers. We need to make revolutionary changes – all
of us.
This is OUR country. If WE don't act, it won't really
matter who becomes the next President.
xpWell put...action begins with the individual, not
the government. There are many actions that can be
taken at an individual level, while seeming small ,
have a cumulative effect.
Drive slower, save gas...(remember 55MPH?? It saved
gas)
Don't buy such a big vehicle next time, buy for fuel
efficiency instead.
Turn the thermostat down in winter and wear that
sweater that Aunt Martha got you last year.
You can get fanatical but it's not necessary. Small
efforts done by many can have an effect.... More
effort, more effect. We can change our habits if we
want to. We need to start with small steps first. We
have accumulated many bad habits over the past
decades. It will take time to change
My fault? Whatever. I didn't even own a vehicle
during the nineties. Now, I drive as little as
possible and try to save energy the best I can. Not to
mention I didn't vote for the guy. I voted Green
Party.
Personally, I don't think it's too big of a stretch to
think of an illegal war of aggression resulting in
millions of Iraqi refugees and hundreds of thousands
of Iraqi corpses as a perfectly good reason why Bush
is the worst president ever.
I rarely drive as well, and I do countless things to
reduce my carbon footprint, but you and I are in a
small minority.
Still, our entire economy is driven by oil.
Do you grow your own food? Make your own clothes -
almost every commodity is completely dependent upon
foreign oil.
Say what you want about Iraq, but something like Iraq
was inevitable. Even before 9/11 there were 25,000
troops protecting our Middle East oil interests.
After 9/11, that amount was increasing almost daily as
Saddam continually pushed the limits.
He tried taking oil before and there is no doubt he
would have again - knowing it was the easiest way to
hurt America.
Still, the point is, without our ridiculous addiction
to foreign oil, Bush could NOT have attacked Iraq.
Besides, do you think Saddam was stupid? Do you think
OPEC is stupid? Do you think terrorists are stupid?
The biggest oil shocks ever are yet to happen.
Obviously, you are too young to remember the oil
shocks of the 70's, which caused massive recession in
the U.S.
Today, we are significantly more dependent upon
foreign oil than in the 70s, and if such oil shocks
were to again occur, a great depression wouldn't be
unreasonable. It would be almost inevitable.
Sadly, most Americans would go to war against almost
anyone over those conditions - such as unemployment,
high food prices, and $10.00 gas.
Let's remember, most Americans were favorable to going
to Iraq. Say it was based on lies, or whatever, but it
wasn't too hard to sway either the majority of America
or Congress.
The point is, I don't care if Bush is the worst
President or not. The only reason there is such
sentiment is because of Iraq, and Iraq could not have
happened without foreign oil dependency.
Yet, the far majority of those complaining about Bush
are STILL increasing their foreign oil dependency.
Talk is cheap. Every American needs to take more
responsibility and take action in their own lives -
voting for President is not enough.

Small moves Ellie.. Small moves.
