PHEVs
are worth the investment
According to Argonne Lab a new study helps validate
"the promise of PHEVs in the near-term, helping
assure that research and development dedicated to the
introduction and implementation of this technology is well
founded."
Among other things the study also found that coal powered
electricity for plug-in
hybrid vehicles was a better solution than coal
converted synthetic diesel, that biomass electricity for
PHEVs was better than ethanol as a liquid fuel, and that
solar and wind generated electricity for PHEVs was better
than electrolysis for hydrogen (I'm sure my
hydrogen-haters will love that point).
While I don't question the results of the study, I do
wonder a bit if Argonne's pro-coal support isn't a bit
coordinated with the government's current drive towards
so-called clean coal, which they seem to be strongly
supporting. For whatever reason I can't help but feel that
PHEVs are being used by the government to first build
support for coal, then nuclear power.
I love PHEVs, it's just the utilities I just can't seem to
trust.
