This morning on MotorTrend, Angus MacKenzie asks, "Are you ready for the bare-bones, 1.6-liter, four cylinder, $25,000 mid-sized car?" Because of high steel, platinum, copper and chemical prices, coupled with increased CAFE regulations, the cost of automobiles is going to go much higher, Angus argues. And the additional costs of hybrid cars just might mean that a base Toyota Prius will start at $28,000.
A next generation hybrid below $20,000? In a couple of years you might be lucky to find a hybrid below $30,000. Maybe that $3000.00 markup on the Prius isn't so bad after all.
