GM and BMW and close to putting the finishing touches on a new technique to turn wasted energy into extra fuel economy. "Their research into thermoelectrics -- the science of using temperature differences to create electricity," could eventually improve fuel economy by 10 percent using nothing but the hot air from exhaust pipes.
