Is vertical farming the key to locally-grown food?

Today CNBC showcased Valcent's new plans for vertical farming that might soon be be offered as franchises. Unfortunately, there isn't much about this new project on Valcent's website.

Because vertical farms could largely be built anywhere, they offer a great opportunity to keep food local, compared to today's world where groceries can travel over a 1,000 miles to your plate.

Additionally, Vertical farms can create ideal growing conditions that minimize the need for fertilizers, pesticides, etc.

While there has been a lot of talk about vertical farming, I think Valcent has a great idea to make going vertical a real world opportunity for savvy investors and franchisees.
