A cure for vampire electronics?

Smart electronics to save the power grid?

Gridwise Lab in Washington State is coming up with a plan to "ward off the type of colossal power failures that plunged much of the Northeast into darkness in 2003 and blacked out big chunks of the West in 1996."

The Lab found that smart appliances with computer chips "computer chips were able to sense when the transmission system was stressed and partially turned themselves off to save critical kilowatts — potentially staving off catastrophe."

Hopefully, the system can also be tweaked to eliminate vampire electronics as well.
