Green Arches? McDonald's to recycle waste?

How about some veggie burgers?

McDonald's will start a waste recycling program in the UK that could provide enough electricity and heating for 130 buildings.

"The scheme will save each restaurant from sending 100 tonnes of refuse to landfill each year and could be rolled out across the country if successful.

The restaurants will become the first in the UK to send no waste to landfill. Instead, any rubbish will be collected, treated at a state-of-the-art energy recovery facility and converted into electricity and heat," reports Channel 4.

I say that's great, however, it's McDonald's meat, chicken and fish that are truly causing the most problems to the environment. Obviously, the world isn't going to go vegetarian any time soon - probably never - but it would be nice to see McDonald's take some sort of innovative action towards this problem. Help people go vegetarian one day per week, for example.

Anyway, back to reality, it's still a good baby step. Hopefully, the program will extend to all McDonald's restaurants worldwide.
