California to ban lightbulbs?

Well, not really the light bulb.

Still, California is seeking to ban incandescent light bulbs by 2012. Instead, fluorescent light bulbs would replace incandescent light bulbs. Yes, fluorescent bulbs are more expensive. They also emit less light, in addition to coming in awkward sizes. However, one would assume that a massive increase in fluorescent bulb sales would create innovation in the fluorescent bulb segment. Additionally, fluorescent bulbs last much longer than a standard bulb, yet they use far less energy. In fact, I've heard statistics that if the rich countries in the world simply moved from incandescent to fluorescent light bulbs, the world could reduce electricity consumption by 5 percent. That's a huge number, and to think that all that would be required is to change a light bulb.

Let's hear it for mercury poisoning once all those florescent bulbs hit the trash cans. It will kill you much quicker than gorebull warming will. Another bad idea from the land of fruits and nuts.

I have heard about the mercury poisoning, but I've also heard there is a remediation technique available as long as the bulbs are disposed of correctly?

The "land of fruits and nuts". Well, I guess we do kind of fit that description - it's all warm, sunny weather.
