In order to obtain CAFE credits, many autos from GM and Ford have been outfitted with the technology for a number of years. In a few states, such as Minnesota, ethanol can be cheaper than gasoline. For many of us, unfortunately, ethanol doesn't offer much, since most states have few, if any, gas stations that offer high mixes of ethanol, such as E85. Additionally, you'll need to pay attention to price, according to the Department of Energy, a gallon of E85 only offers 72% as much energy as does a gallon of gas.
