"BioShip" wins 2005 Solar Decathlon

The University of Colorado at Boulders BioShip proves that solar power can power more than just your home.The University of Colorado at Boulder's 'BioShip', a home built from soybeans, corn, and wheat, won the 2005 Solar Decathlon according to CNN. In addition to powering the house, the solar panels and their batteries also powered an electric car, demonstrating that solar power can offer more than just home power. Aside from electric cars, plug-in hybrid vehicles could also benefit from solar power.

Other competitors included the Pittsburgh Synergy House that was "One bedroom, one bathroom, 784 square feet, $288,000, and zero net energy bills for the rest of your life," noted the Tartan, Carnegie Mellon's student news source.

The Solar Decathlon, which had not been held since 2002, will now become an annual event.
