The rebirth of electric cars?
According to AutoWeek, a panel of technical experts from the National Academy of Sciences suggested that "government and industry researchers should examine battery electric vehicles as an alternative to cars and trucks powered by hydrogen fuel cells". Of course GM is against such talk because it invested $1 billion in electrical vehicles. Nonetheless, one has to ask, did GM take the right approach? The fact that hybrid vehicles offer plug-in capability seems to demonstrate that GM just didn't have the right vision. While GM is an important American job provider, I cannot help but wonder if what is good for GM is good for America, or if what is good for America is actually bad for GM. Ultimately, the facts are pretty clear, GM profits by increasing foreign oil dependency and GM's myopic focus on fuel cell vehicles might not just be the end of GM, but the collapse of American national security.
