Energy and transportation bills push hybrids, kind of
The energy bill extended tax credits for hybrid cars, but the legislation could have been far more aggressive and productive. The two main sticking points are caps and diesel vehicles. (more)
On the other hand, the transportation bill opened the door for hybrid vehicles to enter the carpool lane, even if only a single driver is in the vehicle. Some have expressed outrage, but the real outrage should be directed at Congress. While I'm not opposed to hybrids in the car pool lane, Congress should focus on raising fuel efficiency if it really wants to promote clean, fuel efficient technology. (more)
