Smart Cars might not make it to U.S. via DaimlerChrysler

Autoweek is reporting that DaimlerChrysler might not bring the Smart car to the U.S. market until that unit is profitable in the 36 countries that it is already sold.

DaimlerChrysler is using the North American International Auto Show to test reaction from the U.S. market and the automaker will make a decision within the next few months.

There are four possibilities for the United States.

1. Cancel plans to come.

2. Launch Smart with the ForMore as planned.

3. Bring the ForMore and then the ForTwo.

4. Build the ForTwo and ForFour to meet U.S. standards.
