Bill Ford Jr. has nothing but excuses when it comes to his green vision

According to the Detroit News, In an internal company memo to Ford's senior management Tuesday, Ford Chief Executive Bill Ford Jr. emphasized that by joining the lawsuit (Against California clean air requirements), Ford was not backing off on its commitment to reduce global warming.

"The prospect of any state regulating fuel economy is unacceptable because it raises the prospect of 50 different requirements in 50 different states," Ford said. "In a time when we need clarity, that would be nothing short of chaos."

He added that Ford would continue to search for ways to improve fuel economy: "Ford has been a leader in acknowledging climate change as an issue and this legal challenge does not relieve us of our obligation to find solutions," he said.

Perhaps Ford has been a leader in acknowledging the damage it has caused the world, but it certainly hasn't been a leader in addressing these issues. For a decade, Ford has subsidized gas-guzzlers to the tune of billions of dollars. It's about time Ford subsidizes something that is pro-consumer, rather than pro-corporation.

A commitment requires action. Ford has done nothing but posture and talk. The creation of, potentially, 20,000 hybrid Escapes is not leadership. That's not even a dent in Ford's overall sales. Moreover, the Escape is excessively expensive.

Boycott anything from Ford, but the Escape hybrid!
