New Navistar pickup just plain silly

Navistar is going to begin selling a new truck that will dwarf the Hummer and the Ford F-350. Called a CXT, the new truck is based on a cement-mixing truck foundation.

According to a company spokesman, "We can see it as a vehicle for business people who want to make a distinct impression. For personal use, it's for people who want to make a statement."

What kind of statement? Hey, I'm an a-hole.

The Hummer is bad enough already. At some point in time, the greater good must come into play with product development. Yes, America is about freedom of choice, but freedom for some to make choices which negatively affect a greater majority are not justifiable. Vanity alone cannot justify more choice.

While I like trucks, most are not suitable to the Urban environment, and more importantly, the urban environment of the future. I don't promote hybrid cars simply because they look cool - other cars look much cooler in my opinion - I promote them because they offer more benefits to the greater good than do these silly, gas-guzzling, terror-endorsing monstrosities. Oh, by-the-way, the CXT will get about 6 mpg.

Fortunately, only about 50 are going to be made this year.
