California should ban SUVs

According to studies recently completed in California by the The Children's Health Study, "Long-term exposure to air pollution adversely affects lung function in teenagers." While the study concluded that as teenagers, the affects would be minimal, as older adults the effects will increase the risk "for respiratory disease and heart disease, as well as death due to those conditions."

"The control of air pollution represents an important opportunity to prevent disease," the report concludes.

This comes on the heals of another report, "Emissions pathways, climate change and impacts on California" which claims - very scientifically - that much of California will range from "dry and intolerable to nearly uninhabitable" within the next century. Summer heat waves will be 15 - 20 degrees hotter than today, rainfall will be 60 percent less, combined with 90 percent less snow in the Sierra's. Essentially, California will have to import ALL of its water from outside of the state.

The report states "California can be a powerful player - and that is our best hope. That state has already passed a law to curb emissions in cars by 2009....... Much more must be done. In this race against time, our children's world is losing."

If SUV's can't be made environmentally friendly, they must be severely restricted. If you are in the market, for the sake of the world's children, purchase a hybrid car. You can help make a difference.
